Kindale day 3

We walked out to Charles Fort today, approx 4 miles. It wasn't too far by walking standards, but it was a hilly walk -- take a look at the sign behind Chris. It is pretty accurate.

No complaints because the weather was wonderful (we have been SO fortunate), about 65 degrees, hardly a cloud.

As for the fort, it was first established by the Irish to defend against the English during the 17th century.

The Spanish Armada came to help the Irish defend against the English. Unfortunately their combined efforts were unsuccessful and the English took over the fort whereby they forced the Irish to build a much larger and significantly more fortified structure for them. The English continued to man the fort until 1922 when Ireland became an independent sovereign nation.

The fort is now just a tourist attraction but does provide a wonderful view of the town of Kinsale and harbour.

Wednesday nights are pretty quiet in Kinsale, however, I was able to find two pubs (actually next to each other) playing live music. (Unlike some of our prior video clips, these groups use amplifiers so you might want to turn down your volume a little). We hope you enjoy them:
