Thursday in Dublin

After a busy day yesterday, today was a day to catch-up with other responsibilities. Chris headed off to Trinity College for meetings at the college as well as skype meetings with colleagues in Belgium and Austria. As for me, I spent the morning at our local ...

Hey, if you are going to try to travel light (i.e., one bag each) then one has to find laundromats along the way.

Once I finished with the wash, it was time for a quick shower and another adventure around town. I started with a trip to all the music stores I could find within the central business district (cbd). You may be surprised at the 4 or 5 of them within a couple block radius in the cbd. I saw lots of guitars, a few banjos (more 5-string ones than 4-string Irish tenor banjos), plenty of tin/penny whistles, and bouzoukis. Only one place had fiddles and I didn't see any button accordions. Hmm?

After the music shops, I wandered some of the narrower streets that were lined with little shops selling everything from touristie trinkets to handmade Irish goods to big brand name stores. Plenty of places to eat and drink as well.

Next stop was the National Museum of Ireland - Archeology where I saw pottery that was over 5000 years old (3500 BC).

To some pottery that is a little more current (3000 years ago).

I was beginning to run out of steam and will return tomorrow to look at some of the other exhibits. The Natl Museum of Natural History is right behind the Archeology museum so this could take a couple of days to go through them. 😎

On the way back to our hotel, I cut through the Stephen's Greene and took a few picture of the wonderful flowers.

You might not see me in the next picture because I am dressed entirely in green (hey, it's Ireland afterall), but if you look closely...

Finally, once I got back to our room, I looked out the window to see why the traffic was backed-up around the hotel.
